The Pagan Socialist Democratic Caucus affirms that housing is a fundamental human right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Every person deserves access to safe, stable, accessible, and affordable housing, regardless of income, employment status, disability, age, family structure, or personal circumstances. No one should be forced to choose between paying rent, purchasing food, obtaining medication, or meeting other basic necessities.

We believe that a just and compassionate society recognizes housing as an essential foundation for human dignity, personal security, and community well-being. The ability to maintain a safe home should never depend solely upon wealth or economic circumstances. Housing insecurity and homelessness are not moral failures; they are social challenges that demand meaningful public action, compassionate solutions, and a commitment to ensuring that everyone has a place to call home.

The Pagan Socialist Democratic Caucus supports policies that expand access to affordable housing, strengthen protections against unjust evictions and discriminatory housing practices, increase the availability of public and social housing, and promote the construction and preservation of homes that ordinary people can realistically afford. We support meaningful assistance for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, including emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, and services that help people achieve long-term stability. We also believe that housing must be accessible to people with disabilities, safe for families and children, and inclusive of veterans, older adults, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others who face disproportionate barriers to securing a home.

We recognize that housing is more than a roof over one's head. It is the foundation upon which people build their lives, raise families, participate in their communities, pursue education, maintain employment, and plan for the future. Communities cannot truly prosper while their residents are priced out of their neighborhoods, forced into unsafe living conditions, or left without shelter. We therefore reject the notion that housing should be treated exclusively as a commodity for speculation and profit while people go without the basic security of a home.

Guided by our commitment to democratic socialism, social responsibility, equality, and the inherent dignity of every person, we advocate for a housing system that places human needs at the center of public policy. We believe government, communities, nonprofit organizations, and responsible private partners all have a role to play in ensuring that adequate housing is available to everyone. No person should be abandoned to homelessness because of poverty, and no family should live in constant fear of losing its home simply because wages cannot keep pace with housing costs.

Our Pagan values call us to recognize the sacredness of life, the importance of community, and our responsibility to care for one another. A society that allows people to live without shelter fails to uphold those responsibilities. We envision a future in which every person has access to a secure home, every community has the resources to address housing insecurity, and every individual is treated with dignity rather than judged by their economic status.

The Pagan Socialist Democratic Caucus stands firmly for housing for all. We believe that a home should be a foundation for a meaningful life, not an unattainable dream. We will advocate for policies that make housing more affordable, prevent and address homelessness, protect tenants, and ensure that every person has the opportunity to live in safety and dignity.

Housing for all. Dignity for all. No one left without a home.

Faith. Freedom. Democracy.
